My Strictly Come Dancing blog

Week 8

I have had a super busy week between touring with Calendar girls and getting ready for my performance as Genie of the lamp in Pantomime at Milton Keynes. This week I went to the fabulous dress makers DSI, who also make all the dresses for strictly, to get my Genie costume fitted and of course it will have lots of sequins on it! I also received the script for Panto, so I have been busy learning lines. Then, suddenly on Thursday we had one of the Calendar girls off ill and I had to step in as miss September (the one behind the buns) instead of playing the part of Elaine I normally play, I was on twice as miss September and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Sunday, Kevin my husband and I fronted the relaunch of The Malls in Basingstoke. So, my Wembley week comments below are perhaps not as in depth as some weeks but never the less they are my thoughts. I most praise the wonderful production team who managed to pull off of this exciting show, even if I do agree with some of you out there, who suggested that it is easier to watch the dances properly when it’s filmed in the television studio. It was however a spectacular show!

Robbie and Ola doing the Salsa My score 7

Their Salsa was a fantastic opening to a spectacular night, full of energy and exciting lifts but the salsa was lacking a bit though! Still very entertained and well done to him for attempting all the lifts and succeeding. It was more of a freestyle show dance than an actually Salsa.

Alex and James doing the Tango. My score 8

Nice hold but still not as poised as it could be she just needs to stretch that little bit more to achieve a great neckline, good tango content but still not a completely confident performance but she is definitely improving week by week.

Holly and Artem doing the Quickstep . My score 7

In places I saw a glimpse of hope that she may just have turned into a dancer but mainly it looked very messy. In ballroom I must say I favour long dresses, it was faun outfit but unfortunately wearing a short skirt meant that her legs were exposed and we could see all her mistakes. We are far into the competition now and I’m expecting a hold with constant connection by now and not gaping going on constantly.

Anita and Robin doing the Samba. My score 6

A bit clunky but you cannot fault her energy it’s simply infatuating. More usage of her ankles and getting down through the ball of the foot would have been nice.

Harry and Aliona doing the Salsa. My score 8

This was my least favourite of Harry’s dances so far but I still think it was a great performance. He is so watchable and they had some very eye catching moves in there. Could have been more Salsa action in the hips but he gave it his all as always.

Russell and Flavia doing the Jive . My score 8 for sheer entertainment

It was fun, energetic and entertaining, just like a jive should be. I would have liked to see him up onto his ball of the foot a bit more in the basic jive steps but I liked his kicks. The competition is getting tougher though.

Chelsee and Pasha doing the Samba. My score 9

This dance really suited her, although I would have liked to see a bit more bounce and softness in the knees, I think it was slick and all the lines very lovely and extended. This performance tonight has made me think that she perhaps is capable of giving the boys a run for their money after all.

Jason and Kristina doing the Jive. My score 10

I LOVED IT! Jason for me was the only one tonight who delivered exactly what I would called a rocking Wembley performance. Well done!
One hick up, yes, that can happen to even the best dancers in the world and they can still win a championship, so I wouldn’t worry about it!

Until next week! Have a wonderful and happy week! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts and comments with me on twitter!

Week 7

I had a busy Saturday this week and I missed the show as I was off Waltzing with the handsome Mark Foster and on stage with Calendar girls in Ipswich! I’m absolutely loving touring with this wonderful play and enjoying playing the character of Elaine who is a beautician, there is no dancing in my acting part as Elaine so It was fun to slip on my Ballroom dress and waltz around the floor for a couple of minutes and speaking with Mark and the audience about this years series! Spending my day off today, relaxing and catching up on last nights performances on Strictly. Next week I’m performing with Calendar girls in Aylesbury and I will also be learning more about this years Panto performance which I will be doing in Milton Keynes. I’m so excited about playing the Genie in Aladdin and I hope lots of you will come to see us! Here are my views and comments on this weeks show!

Alex and James doing the Jive. My score 8

Nice and energetic Jive. The beginning with the doll was not my cup of tea but it’ s the first dance where Alex has convince me, that maybe James can make a dancer out of her after all. Jiving in flat shoes is however much easier than in heels like we would in competitions, so she had an advantage. I liked her jive kicks although she was a little flat footed and could have been up on the ball of the foot a bit more and pointed her feet more in places too. I thought her jive chasse’s were a bit slow and flat but overall her best performance so far and it was great to see her looking confident and comfortable.

Robbie and Ola doing the American smooth.  My score 8

Great routine, beautifully timed to the music. Lovely arms extensions and hands. I would have liked to see a bit more flow in the foxtrot steps but I think he coped extremely well switching between the lifts and the moves quickly. Very watchable performance which with another week of rehearsals could have been a top score. I think he will keep going from strength to strength.

Audley and Natalie doing to the Cha Cha. My score 6

He always looks so happy and always tries his best and learns all the basic steps but I think the competition has gotten stronger and he is lacking behind now. I agree with Len saying it was not his best dance but he did do his best!

Harry and Aliona doing the Argentine Tango. My score 9

I thought it was absolutely brilliant but not quite a 10 as I agreed with Len that although it was practically perfect it was slightly clinical and all it needed was a bit more passion from Harry and for him to have tapped into that throughout the dance like he did at the ending of it! He is becoming a fantastic dancer though and I most admit that I look forward to each week of strictly to see what he and Jason has come up with!

Jason and Kristina doing the Viennese Waltz. My score 10

Wow that to me was a winning performance, it had everything from beautiful steps wonderfully placed and great emotion. I’m sure you can tell, I LOVED IT! Well done to Kristina who looked beautiful and who have done an outstanding job with this routine! I want to rewind an watch it all over again! My favourite of the evening so far and hey with a good luck message from Kylie herself, who wouldn’t want that!

Chelsee and Pasha doing the Foxtrot. My score 8

Not as convincing as I would have liked it. It didn’t look to me as if she was fully connecting to this dance! To have a beautiful extension in the upper body you have to have the correct footwork, it all starts from the feet and legs and then works upwards and you should end up with a beautiful neckline but not here. Sadly her footwork has not improved as much as some of the others in the competition and to achieve more finesse she needs to focus on improving the basic footwork.

Anita and Robin doing the Argentine Tango. My score 8

Good job for a very difficult dance. It looked a bit restricted in the shoulders in places but I loved the drama and passion she brought to this performance!

Holly and Brendan Rumba. My score 9

I really enjoyed this Rumba! There was unfortunately a little clumsy moment though when she sat on the floor and had to get up again in not the most elegant way, that said, It was however a wonderful routine with lots of romance and emotion. Full respect to Brendan and Holly for creating such magic after only 4 days together! I really wish Artem a full and speedy recovery!

Russell and Flavia American Smooth. My score 7

Russell Grant equals show business darling!!!!!!! You can’t help but absolutely loving this man! Flavia is doing a fantastic job week after week creating these fabulous routines to absolutely match his gorgeous personality! If I have to give a little criticism it would be that I would have loved to see a couple more dance steps mixed in there!

Well, those are my thoughts and comments on this weeks performances, thank you to all of you for your tweets and views too! Have a great week everyone!

Week 6

Another spectacular show, may I just point out once again what a great job the singers and the band do every week to create such beatiful sound. Not to mention the fantastic costumes and lighting effects. It really is the complete package from producers to dancers which makes this show a joy to watch. Here are my thoughts as tweeted on Saturday night.

Lulu and Brendan doing the Tango. My score 6

Great to see she had worked on the routine and her footwork was much better but her frame and neckline was seriously lacking in poise. She has never really convince me as a viewer that she is really embracing the experience and therefore lacking building up a rapport with her partner and the viewers. I will not be surprised if she is the one to go this week.

Audley and Natalie doing to the Viennese Waltz. My score 6

Nice and elegant attempt. His frame was strong but he is too far right with his head which means he is leaning on Natalie, very flat footed still but I enjoyed the routine never the less. Somehow he is another one who doesn’t seem to be connecting with the audience which is strange as he comes across very lovely but keeps ending up in the bottom two which obviously means the lack of public support.

Harry and Aliona doing the Samba. My score 9

Samba was the one dance all my celeb partners dreaded throughout my 6 series on the show. It’s a very tricky dance because of the bounce action and the usage necessary of the feet, ankles and knees. Harry’s routine was very difficult and I think fair play to him to attempt such a high level of basic steps. He had a great whisks action and there was brilliant Samba content in the routine. I really admire the way he gets into each dance and he always turns up well rehearsed for the live shows.

Anita and Robin doing the Charleston . My score 8

This dance really suited Anita, maybe cause she could get into character and act and perform it more then the others she has done. This one, in my opinion is the best one she has done. She looked fab and it was fun to watch, there were however a few hick ups throughout which results in me giving an 8.

Jason and Kristina doing the Rumba . My score 8

Rumba is my absolute favourite dance but it’s a tough one for even professionals let alone a beginner. What makes the Rumba such a tricky dance is that it’s slow and there are many times where the man is standing still and presenting the lady so he is limited for steps to show him off. His lines were great with good extension through the body to the arms, and fingers but slightly restricted in the hip area. Overall a nice routine but he didn’t embrace the romance and story telling enough, perhaps because he was too concerned about getting the dance right. Still a fan though!

Alex and James doing the Quickstep. My score 6

It looked to me as if she was hanging on for dear life. James had done a brilliant routine with no frills but she could unfortunately not keep up. Whether this was down to her heel being court in her dress or this dance just simply being to fast for her, I’m not quite sure. One thing is for sure the connection between her and James was almost none existing and there bodies were hardly touching.

Robbie and Ola doing the Waltz.  My score 9

Loved it!  He can do no wrong in my book. This was such a beautiful and classical routine. He looked the part and were waltzing around the floor like a true pro.

Russell and Flavia doing the Paso. My score 7

Russell may be fun and entertaining every week but not only that he actually learns the proper steps and he had lovely arm extensions throughout this Paso.

Chelsee and Pasha doing the Charleston. My score 8 to 9

Almost brilliant, but she kept looking at Pasha for approval and kept being slightly behind his moves. I totally disagree with the judges that hey were in perfect sync, not from where I was watching. Still my favourite she has done so far although still not seeing her as a contender for the final. My finalist are still Jason, Harry and and Robbie.

Holly and Artem doing the Jive. My score 7 to 8

I wish she would just start believing in herself, she kept looking down and it didn’t look like she gave it her all, with a 100% commitment she could have really pulled this off. Clever to wear flat shoes as it’s a very fast dance and she may have struggled in heels. She was not up on ball of her feet enough. After haven’t written this I realised that Artem was struggling with back pain and this may have been affecting there performance, which I totally understand but surely it’s only fair to the other contestants that the score reflect the performance as it’s performed not what it may have been.

Thanks again for all your interesting tweets you all send me, I love hearing your thoughts and comments. Have a great week!

Strictly week 5
It was Halloween week and the show kicked off in style with an awesome group number. Over all it was a fantastic and very visual show but while watching something however did grate on my professional eye. I was slightly confused by the scoring; the boys seemed underscored compared to performances of an equal standard from the ladies who were heavily over marked in my opinion. This year it is so obviously the male celebrities who have taken the lead right from the beginning, they are in my eyes way ahead of the ladies, so why not let them enjoy it and support them with encouraging comments and good marks. I feel strongly that this could be the year for an all male final and my money would be on Jason, Harry and Robbie making that final. How exciting that would be to watch them all competing for that trophy. They all have different skills to bring to the table, which makes it even more interesting but not only that they can all dance too and they are not scared of trying difficult and technical moves. Anyway, here is to hoping that the best man wins.

Russell and Flavia doing the Samba. My score 6

Even with a sore knee bless him he entertained us once again. Great fun to watch, good routine and nice and bouncy Samba action. His foot work need some work still but you can’t help but smile from ear to ear when watching this man.

Chelsee and Pasha doing the Tango My score 8

Chelsee, this is the best she has looked so far in the competition. This routine was slightly less hectic then what we have seen previous from her and her footwork and use of legs has definitely improved. Her upper body and hold though is a bit too loose still and not enough control in the upper body and neckline. She is showing potential but in my opinion we should be scoring the ability of the dance we are seeing on the night and not what the potential may be in the future.

Audley and Natalie doing to the Jive. My score 6

I quite like it. Considering that he was in the bottom two in week one he has come a long way and tries to improve and impress every week. He is still a bit heavy on his feet and flat footed. He has a long way to go but charming chap. Full respect to him for learning proper basic steps.

Alex and James Paso. My score 7

She was so much better than last week but still a bit awkward in the upper body and shoulders, there is a certain stiffness in that area which needs to be loosened up. I wouldn’t call her a natural dancer just yet but performance wise she committed to the dance in a way we hadn’t seen her do before and got into the spirit of the Paso.

Holly and Artem My score 7

Maybe as a free style show dance this may have worked but I wasn’t keen on it in a ballroom dance competition. As I’m writing this I’m still not quite sure what dance they were actually doing except a ballet perhaps? I would still like to see Holly actually enjoying herself and learning some more technical ballroom dance steps, it doesn’t make sense to me how she can score so highly without show casing hardly any basic steps yet others who do attempt these get marked down. I do however feel there may be some potential which could be unlocked with lots of basic dance practice.

Nancy and Anton doing the Rumba. My score 4

Nancy, not much to say about this performance I’m afraid, except we just watched another stroll in the park done to music with no rhythm, unfortunately she also looks like she is not trying at all. I just hope that not yet another person who really can dance and who are enjoying the experience goes home before her.

Harry and Aliona doing the Tango. My score 9

Loved it! He was in character, leading her and it was super intense to watch! I want to rewind and watch it all over again! Keep up the great work!

Robbie and Ola doing the Paso My score 8

Another brilliant performance from the two of them! He is so confident, in control and this was a performance done with such great energy. Sadly he was seriously under scored by the judges but I have no doubt that the audiences at home are enjoying watching this guy just as much as I am, so hopefully he will be kept in by the audience week after week.

Anita and Robin doing the Tango. My score 6

This performance didn’t work for me, it fell totally flat! Lack of energy, lacking footwork and hold not close enough in many places and the upper body strength was simply not there. She comes across as a lovely lady but the dancing needs to seriously improve to get my vote.

Lulu and Brendan doing the Paso. My score 6

This is the best she has looked so far. It was an exciting routine and I must say she looked much more glamorous flying in on those wires than others have done in the past! Paso foot and leg action needs work but so much better!

Jason and Kristina doing the Quickstep. My score 8

Lovely quickstep, lots of dance content which was fabulous to see. His top line suffered in a few places but over all a brilliant performance! It’s a very fast dance to do so I’m not surprised there were a few hick ups, unfortunately it does reflect in my score. I’m sure Jason will be back to dazzle us again next week.

So there we are, those are my views and comments. Thanks for sharing all of yours too with me on Twitter on Saturdays. Until next week, keeeeeeeeeepp ..........

Camilla x
Strictly week 4.

Jason and Kristina Paso, My score 6

This dance didn’t suit Jason as much as the previous once we have seen him do and he appeared a bit wooden in places. He did however have nice and clean lines, unfortunately in places his shoulders came up to high. It’s a very difficult dance for a man to pick up quickly. Move on quickly to the next one Jason, I’m sure you will be back dazzling us again next week.

Alex and James Rumba. My score 6

Very clever routine by James again and her upper body and arms were lovely but unfortunately her feet and hip action is still lacking. She needs to practice the basic rumba walks up and down the floor over and over again. She can do this if she commits to it, much more confident then when she first stepped onto the dance floor.

Rory and Erin Cha cha cha. My score 7

I really enjoyed their performance, he came out and just went for it which I really admire. Rory has been very consistent and always gives it his all! Yes there is room for improvement but he always captures the spirit of each dance.

Audley and Natalie Foxtrot.  My score 6

Natalie did a great job with him but he still needs to use his feet and legs much more. Greatly improved all round though.

Nancy and Anton Paso. My score 2

That was more like a walk in the park then a paso, it should be bye bye Nancy. The dress may have been beautiful but come on, this is a dancing competition and about time she realises that and starts to practice those steps.

Lulu and Brendan Samba. My score 6

So much better, finally we see the Lulu we all know and love...performing and looking comfortable! Basics still needs work but hugely improved and she was enjoying it which was great to see! It finally looks like they have gelled as a partnership.

Holly and Artem Viennese Waltz. My score 6

Longest entrance I have ever seen. Viennese waltz action ok but to little of it, she still needs to use her legs and feet so much more. The potential is there, it just depends what she decides to do with it really.

Chelsee and Pasha Quickstep. My score 8.

Ok quickstep, still far to stiff in the legs and routine too busy. She is almost dancing the whole dance on straight legs. The hold had improved though! They still leave me cold and don’t seem to draw the audience in!

Harry and Alliona Waltz, My score 9

Now, that’s worth a 9, beautiful leg action; he is bending his legs to move just as he should. Stunning routine and dress. Well done to both of them.

Anita and Robin American smooth. My score 6

She is such a lovely lady and fabulous to watch but the hold and footwork wasn’t quite there tonight. Nice routine and concept though could have been brilliant with a few weeks rehearsals.

Robbie and Ola Jive. My score 7

In places a little awkward but whenever he was doing any jive kicks it looked great. He is surprisingly light on his feet and really got up on the ball of the foot which is necessary in a jive. I know I go on about it but I really enjoy watching him, he brings something unique and individual to each performance.

Russell and Flavia Tango. My score 6

Entertaining as always. Not quite staccato enough for a tango but he had a nice hold and the routine was very well rehearsed and worked well! Once again Russell showed us that he is fully committed to learning and improving each week.

Camilla x

Strictly week 3.

It’s week 3 and it’s Broadway week. If you missed my tweets then read on here for my thoughts and comments on this evenings showy routines.

Holly and Artem. My score 6

It’s started out well, she looked more confident to begin with and the theme was cool but unfortunately it didn’t last. The only time this routine worked was when she was doing the showy stuff, the dancing is still lacking seriously behind.  I wasn’t too worried about the heel getting stuck in her dress as it was only for a split second. The Tango basics needs serious attention. I’m not seeing the dancing improving much from week to week unfortunately. This performance however was the best I have seen her look so far in the competition.

Dan and Katya. My score 5

There is unfortunately not much musicality when it comes to Dan and if Arleen was there I think we all know what she would say about his hands. But his frame has definitely improved and in some places I did think he was looking all right but then it kind of went a little awkward in places too. He is definitely trying and hopefully he will keep improving!

Anita and Robin. My score 6

She always comes out full of energy and is 100% committed to what she is doing and she showed great potential in the jive but still needs to be lighter on her feet and keep her legs together more. Somehow I’m not too sure on the choices in choreography for her.

Alex and James. My score 8 close to 9

Best routine so far, this evening. Simple, beautiful and classy. Alex has really improved from week one, her hold is so much better now and she is finally starting to look comfortable performing in front of the audience.  Lovely to finally see some dancing, a stunning basic Viennese waltz. As they say, less is more! Well done to James for making a her look so fantastic. Hope she keeps improving every week.

Rory and Erin. My score 7

Another, very clever routine from Erin. Rory had beautiful hold but needs to straighten up his posture a bit in places as he is sometimes leaning too far over with his upper body. Lovely footwork and in generally, just a great performance to watch.

Lulu and Brendan My score 5

Bless her, she is not a natural dancer. Her knees were bent most of the time, looking down on the floor. I find it such a shame that she doesn’t seem to be able to bring the confidence to the floor she has when she sings. She is an awesome performer but she needs to connect this to her dance routines if she wants to be in with a chance. Shame as the routine had potential!

Nancy and Anton.  My score 4

I again find myself not knowing what to say about her performance. It started better and the atmosphere seemed to be there but she was mainly sitting on a chair and walking around the floor in something there was suppose to be a Tango. My money is on her to be the next one to leave.

Audley and Natalie My score 6

Greatly improved all around. This routine showed him off in the best way, his hold is so much better and Audley is lighter on his feet.  Nice to see him attempting a mixture of jive and quickstep. It was obvious that he had worked hard not to be in the bottom two again.

Robbie and Ola. My score 7

Not as strong as last week but still good considering the tango is a tough one for a man to learn as it’s vital in this dance that he is leading and looks in control. I think he was still leading and the intention was all there but in places it lost the fire. Still a strong performance from them both and I’m definitely still a fan.

Russell and Flavia My score 7

It’s ShowTime. Russell never lets us down, he comes out Saturday after Saturday and entertains us. Foxtrot is a tricky dance and it was obvious that he had worked hard on the footwork. Good job, very fun and entertaining!

Jason and Kristina My score 8

Jason’s frame needs work but he came out and really attacked it and absolutely rocked the place. It was fun and entertaining, really well done to Kristina for playing to his strengths and building the routine around the Priscilla moves that he knows. One of my favourite songs too, loved it!

Chelsee and Pasha My score 6

I am not falling in love with their performances at all, somehow they leave me cold. The dancing needs to be much more controlled and the legs are far too loose. Len was right it was like a disco routine. I don’t see any story telling either. Lots of energy but it needs to be chanelled in the right way otherwise it just looks far too busy.

Harry and Aliona. My score 9

That was HOT! Lovely jive action, he is a natural born performer and works hard to impress every week. He takes charge, oh yes that was a BRILLIANT way to finish the evening!

Camilla x

Strictly week 2.

Well, that was an interesting evening, I found that there were 3 couples who were clearly in the lead with the rest quite far behind except perhaps Rory and Alex. Jason, Robbie and Harry did an amazing job and as I’m writing this I actually can’t believe that it’s 3 men who are looking the best so far in the competition, as I have always sworn that it is far easier for a professional man to lead a lady around the floor but the professional ladies have shown us this year, that this is not necessarily the case.  I did however have my eye on Alex tonight, perhaps the dark horse of the show? She will be one to watch in the ballroom for sure as the week’s progresses.

Chelsee and Pasha doing the Salsa. My score 6

First up was Cheelsea looking very frantic. The saying less is more definitely came to mind. She looked lovely but the routine had every trick in the book but unfortunately no substance, looked more like an eighties disco dance than a hot Salsa. Her knees needs needed to be a little flexed in this dance and more hips rotation , more salsa vibe basically!

Edwina and Vincent Foxtrot. My Score 5

Edwina bless her, good effort but not much to say as not much Foxtrot in that routine to go by. I’m afraid she does not get my vote, could have been her last dance on the show!

Audley and Natalie Salsa. My score 6

Ok so he is a bit wooden but I love the way he is enjoying himself.  He brings such great energy to the floor and you can definitely tell that he is embracing the whole experience. I love a tryer. As a professional all we ever expect from our strictly partners is that they try and give it their all.  Maybe through the weeks we will see him loosen up a bit more and get lighter on his feet.

Alex and James foxtrot

When Alex and James started dancing I thought yes, finally a proper dance no fuss just beautiful foxtrot.  Often too many lifts and props take away from the beauty of the dance they are suppose to be learning but not in this case, James had done a great job! In the future ballroom dances it would be great to see Alex improve her frame, topline and working on lowering her shoulders and getting comfortable in James’s hold!

Dan and Katya doing the Salsa. My score 5.

Nice routine but he really needs 2 work on loosening up his hips and body, he is still looking very stiff and not quite comfortable on the dance floor yet.  In his defence, Salsa is a very difficulty dance for a tall man so I would have preferred if they had worked harder on him getting into the spirit of the dance rather than the very difficult lifts he was doing. In my opinion it’s far too early to be approaching lifts like that when you are not even mastering the basics. It’s only week two after all.

Lulu and Brendan doing the Foxtrot. My score 6

Well done, much better than last week! Lovely dress and an interesting classical routine.  She needs to keep listening to her partner and keep working on her footwork and upper frame. I believe she can improve a lot if she starts believing she can. She has got a lovely presence on the floor.

Holly and Artem doing the Salsa. My score 6

Not really a fan yet, it was ok but looked a bit awkward in places. She really needs to focus on the rhythm and her legs. I also hope Artem helps her find confidence to let go and enjoy herself more. He can use the fact that she is an actress to her advantage.

Rory and Erin doing the Salsa. My score is 7

This is the second week in a row I have enjoyed Rory’s performance. Clever routine showing him off in the best way. So fun to watch and he really got into the spirit of the Salsa, well done keep working hard you are a great team and it shows.

Robbie and Ola doing the Foxtrot My score 7

Wow, really enjoyed this performance. Robbie looked in control and he had a lovely frame! He can afford to bring his head down just a bit but good basic routine!  What a charmer, definitely one to watch, well done!

Anita and Robin doing the Salsa. My score 5

Well she was definitely in the spirit of the salsa but I thought there were a few odd choices of steps which were not particularly flattering for her like skipping across the floor and being throw over the shoulder. Not my favourite routine this evening, it was too busy which is a great shame as she has a fun and outgoing personality!

Jason and Kristina doing the Foxtrot. My score 8

Really enjoyable routine to watch! He had a nice hold and connection with Kristina. The whole number was tasteful and elegant. In the future he needs to make his rise and fall smoother and flex his knees and he will find that the footwork and the connection between the two of them will improve even more.

Nancy and Anton doing the Salsa. My score 5

I don’t know where to start!  Half way through she seemed to get into the rhythm of the dance but I think she should have spend more time practising the basics rather than lifts. Not sure she will be staying in this contest too long unless she starts to prove that she is willing to put in the work.

Harry and Aliona doing the Foxtrot. My score 8

I really enjoy watching Harry dance and I find myself looking forward to his performances. The problem though when you come out looking as brilliant as he did last week the audience quickly expects that every week. I think this was an elegant routine but in places he didn’t look completely in charge like last week and his facial expression was a little strained. In the ballroom he needs to focus on leading, keeping his head up and not leaning forward as much with the upper body but I am indeed excited to watch his journey through this competition.

Russell and Flavia doing the Salsa. My score 6

This man just makes me happy, what a gorgeous personality, a sheer joy to watch. He brings such energy to every performance and you can tell he loves it. Really Russell sums up the spirit of dance with one smile; it’s all about having a good time. Indeed flamboyant too!

Those are my thoughts on tonights performances, look forward to next week. Untill then, please keep tweeting me your thoughts and comments!

Week 1 show 2

Harry and Aliona doing the Cha Cha Cha. My score 8
Ok well I think I may have just found myself one of my favourites. He is adorable to watch, he can move and has rhythm. Really looking forward to seeing him improve week after week and I have a feeling that by the end of the series he will be looking like a pro. Brilliant positions, all he needs to do is believe he can do this, practice on his basics and loosen up a little more and he could be well on the way to getting his hands on that trophy.

Rory and Erin doing the waltz. My score 8
I was so thrilled to se my dear friend Erin waltzing around the floor, what and excellent job she has done with Rory. Such lovely footwork and so elegant he looked, I was really really impressed and for week one he should be very proud of himself. He could in places lower his shoulders slightly and it will help the hold improve for the future ballroom dances. Otherwise keep doing what Erin tells you to do, your in safe hands.

Alex and James doing the Cha Cha Cha. My score 6
I was quite disappointed when Alex started dancing, she came out looking like a professional in a stunning dress and looked super confident but as soon as the Cha Cha rhythm started I’m afraid it all looked a bit stiff and it was soon James doing most of the work.  She will have to do some serious practice on leg and foot action and loosen up in general.  Once again I found myself agreeing with Craig.

Chelsee and Pasha Doing the Waltz. My score 7
In principal all the elements were there and in places it could have looked great but somehow it failed to impress.  There was no constant connection between the two bodies and for me it was all show and no technique.  Very busy to watch and not easy on the eye.  She needs to do some serious work on ballroom technique, it is very different than dancing on your own. It’s about leading and following and what two people’s bodies can create together rather than what you can achieve alone. Not one of my favourite dances this evening.

Edwina and Vincent Doing the Cha Cha Cha. My score 5
I don’t really know what to say. I think Vincent did a good job keeping the routine to her abilities but it was neither funny nor brilliant, It was just ok. She has a fun personality which shines through and you could tell that she had really tried to learn the basics of the Cha Cha Cha.

Nancy and Anton Doing the Waltz. My score 3
Oh dear, It was hard to judge this as she didn’t really show us too much dancing as she unfortunately kept getting caught in the feather. The posture and hold could have potential.
She is indeed a glamorous lady.

Jason and Kristian dancing the CHa Cha Cha. My score 8
WOW, I was absolutely thrilled when I saw Jason rocking out the Cha cha. I must say full credit to him, he has simple proven what it means to aply yourself completely. When I saw him doing the first group dance I was slightly concerned as he definately did not look like a natural dancer but three weeks of Kristina’s coaching and lots of practice, he came out and totally rocked the studio with his Cha Cha. Very excited to see what’s next for him. If he keeps working hard he may just show us all that he can indeed dance as well as act and sing. Very charming personality to go with it too.

More from me next week! Until then, please keep tweeting me all your thoughts and comments too!

Strictly week 1. Show 1.

Unfortunately I missed the show yesterday as I was on stage with Calendar girls in Blackpool but have finally caught up with the first show on iplayer today. I must admit that nobody jumped out at me immediately screaming “champion” but I did definitely see a few with great potential and maybe even champion quality. It all depends though if they are willing to put in the work, which I suppose we will soon see.
Well done to the dress department, sound and lighting, the show looked absolutely stunning and a round of applause to the wonderful orchestra and singers who never ceases to amaze me.
Each week I will blog my opinion and score of each couple to share with you and I would love to hear your comments and views too via twitter @camilladallerup

Holly and Artem doing the Cha Cha Cha. My score 6
Never easy to have to open the very first show and I hope that it’s was the nerves which got the better of her and not lack of practice because I must admit I was expecting a lot more from her, especially knowing that she has performed most of her life with acting and singing. There were more walking than Cha cha Cha but bearing in mind it is week one I would suggest she puts the attention and practice into working on getting those legs working into the floor to obtain a more grounded look.  She didn’t look confident and like she was enjoying herself which as a performer she should know is half the battle.  Clever move from Artem to wear the shirt open to distract all us women from looking at Holly, I’m sure he scored a few votes this way.  Saying that she did look stunning and if she overcomes her nerves and works on the legs she could turn out to be brilliant. It doesn’t happen often but on this one I actually agreed with Craig.

Dan & Katya doing the Waltz. My score 6
I really was pleasantly surprised by Dan, as Len said for a tall man it can be an even bigger challenge but he used it to his advantage. Perhaps a little wooden in places but in general nice rise and fall. He needs to keep his head more to the left and resist the temptation of wanting to look right towards Katya. He could work on his connection to her and lessen the gap between them.  Overall for week one, good job!

Lulu & Brendan doing the Cha Cha Cha. My score 5
I have always been a big fan of Lulu’s and her wonderful energy she brings to a performance and therefore I so want to say something positive about her performance but unfrotunalely it fell a bit flat and the only thing which sticks in my mind is that the dress was nice. The whole thing looked messy and like she hadn’t tried hard enough to actually learn the basics and concept of the cha cha cha. I would love her to come back next time and show us that she can dance but so far I have little hope.

Audley & Natalie doing the Waltz. My score 5
Audley has a charm about him which is lovely but I would have loved to see more waltzing. He needs to really work on getting light on those feet and shifting his weight from foot to foot more easily. Again needs to keep that head to the left as he is putting far too much wait on the right side which makes it difficult for the lady but the likes of James Martin and Darren Gough showed us all, that it is possible even if does not come naturally to you in the beginning.

Robbie & Ola doing the Cha Cha Cha. My score 5
It may have been a bit wooden and there are lots of things to improve on with leg work and arms but to be honest I don’t care and if I was Ola I probably would have made him stand there too and just danced around him. He has a confidence and sex appeal which I’m sure is going to help him win the women’s vote. Ola is excellent in getting the best out of her partners and I’m sure she will work her magic here too and we will see quite a journey from Robbie as the series goes on. Personally I’m excited to see how he is going to improve and what dance he will attack next. Sorry, but you can’t help but wanting to watch him.

Anita & Robin doing the Waltz. My score 6
Wow she looked so elegant and natural. I really enjoyed her performance.  She needs to keep working on her neckline and connection with Robin as the weeks go on but overall lovely and great effort for week one.

Russel & Flavia doing the Cha Cha Cha. My score 6
Well Hello, what a finish to the show. Russel definitely dazzled and had great rhythm.  Well done to Flavia too for making a great routine which really played to his strengths, that’s what’s it’s all about, showing the celebs of in the best way we can. I want to see more of Russell entertaining us.  So refreshing when someone just comes out and gives it their all, very brave for week one! Keep it up Russell!

As I mentioned at the beginning I found all the couple quite even which clearly is reflected in my scores. It’s a good starting point as it means anything could happen!  Camilla x

The launch show Strictly series 9, 2011

I must admit that when I saw the celebrities announced the other day I wasn’t too excited at first as I thought it was quite obvious who would be the front runners immediately, however 5 minutes into tonight’s show and I have changed my mind. It does indeed look like it’s going to be an exciting one.

Already I have my favourites who I predict will go all the way, call it intuition, they are… Harry, Holly and Robbie closely followed by Lulu and, now I surprised myself with this one, Russel who just seemed so entertaining and actually looked like he had a few moves up his sleeve. I’m a huge fan of Jason, unfortunately though, from watching the group dance he has some serious training to do, as does Dan who equally looked a little on the wooden side. When I danced with James Martin in series 3 though he quickly showed that with a lot of training it’s possible to make the semi-final! Rory and Anita could be the dark horses in this game as they did display rhythm as well as potential with lovely personalities. Audley is also very charming but let’s see if he has the moves to go with it! I must admit that again judging from the group dance Edwina, Nancy and Chelsee have to put in some serious hours of training, but hey it’s early days and it could all change by the first show and I could be proven wrong. One thing is for sure though.... we will be entertained!

I have to say well done to all the professionals for a great display tonight, guys you spoil us and the outfits WOW, were right up my street and seriously I’m not a prude but I do prefer when there is something left to the imagination. Bring on week one!
